So much talk recently on drug testing those who accept welfare benefits. I personally don’t understand what all the fuss is about. The question I think we need to ask is  ”why aren’t we testing them”?

how is it that it’s completely legal to subject working Americans to mandatory drug tests. It’s not just private employers either. The Department of Defense requires tests for all employees in security-sensitive jobs, and the Department of Transportation requires truck drivers, airline crews, train crews, and pipeline employees to undergo testing. I’m sure there are ohters, but I don’t feel like researching for you lazy asses, this is my space to speak my mind. Do your own research.

I will tell you this though. The Wolverine state (Michigan for all you non football types), had it right in 1999. you see the mitten state’s Family Independence Agency pulled their collective heads from their asses instituted a pilot program to drug test welfare recipients. With the belief that strong  family relationships may be more difficult if there are substance abuse issues in the home, and because  substance abuse is a barrier to employment, drug testing was set to begin in Michigan. Every applicant was required to submit to a drug test prior to the state reviewing them for assistance. Additionally, after six months, twenty  percent of  adults and parents enrolled in the program would be randomly chosen to be retested.

The program managed to operate for five weeks before the Michigan court struck down the program, saying that it was in violation of the Fourth Amendment prohibition against unreasonable searches. Wait….. what?

Somehow making someone piss in a cup is considered an unreasonable search, and/or an invasion of privacy. You lost me here. Once again, …. the STATE ….. can make an employee submit to a mandatory drug test. That’s OK right? NOBODY has a problem with state employees being drug tested. But you the welfare recipient.  Yeah you… the guy that accepts the money that WE WORKING DRUG TESTED AMERICANS put into the system for those down on their luck. You, the lazy piece of shit that just wants to smoke pot, and play Xbox. Apparently YOU don’t need to be tested to spend the money that me and of millions of other workers have busted our asses to get.

Citing illegal searches and seizure is bullshit. If you don’t want to piss in a cup go get a job where you don’t have to. No one is  FORCING you to apply for assistance. If you don’t apply, you don’t have to piss in a cup. But if you want help, then show that you  are serious about it and clean up. Fuck, at least do it long enough to qualify. The problem is, we’re starting to let recipients look  at welfare as a lifestyle now. It’s no longer viewed as a safety net for entrepreneurs, or a needed resource for those unable to  work. Nope now its T-Bones, and Mountain dew.

Here’s the other argument. that “The drug test can reveal a host of private medical facts about the individual, Scriven wrote,  adding that she found it “troubling” that the drug tests are not kept confidential like medical records. The results can also be  shared with law enforcement officers and a drug abuse hotline, This potential interception of positive drug tests by law  enforcement implicates a ‘far more substantial’ invasion of privacy than in ordinary civil drug testing cases,” said Scriven, who was appointed by President George W. Bush.

Potential intercepts by law enforcement agencies? What kind of James bond shit is he watching. For one thing, if the test are HIPAA compliant, that problem is solved. Just treat them like medical records. You know, put them in a shared data base that only the government can see……. I mean if we’re gonna bitch about invasion of privacy we should be talking about health insurance and medical record problems. Not Joe stoner and a joint. But I’ll save that for another rant.

Seriously, I understand that law enforcement “could” get to the records. They can do the same with employer test results. In some cases, much easier than they could access that same information from the state. The problem has nothing to do with unconstitutionality. It has to do with a sense of entitlement amongs the lower class. the new movement is to take from the earners, and pass to the lazy. Well I’m not a fan of it. As I taxpayer, I say if you need my money, I’ll gladly help you out. But I’d like every assurance that you are going to use it for your kids, and that you’re serious about getting your life straightened out. I have that right, it IS my money.

I think the same should be required for unemployment benefits in a non worker contribution system. As an employer, you are required to set aside a portion of money incase your workers should lose their jobs. Some states require workers to contribute, some do not. If you did not contribute, then you once again are living on my dime. I say you should be tested. Funny how when you can’t afford food for your kids, you can still afford cigarettes. I’m just sayin……. seems a bit odd to me.

In an economy where education funding is constantly being cut, do we really need to make it easier, and in some cases more desirable to be on government assistance. I say we charge a $50.00 up front fee. Refund it to the applicants who test negative, and have those that fail, forfeit their cost. Save your breath if you want to argue for the kids. If you think for one moment, that giving assistance to a drugged out parent is somehow helpful for children, you’re not right in the head. Best thing that could happen, is that mom fails a piss test, and gets the opportunity to go to a treatment facility. How is this a bad thing?  It  just might be the thing that “Cocaine Suzy” needs to get off the rock.

Why stop there? I say we test all elected officials too. Do you seriously think this wouldn’t help? If you watch half the shit that they pass, you know their high. Well that’s My Fucking Opinion. -DE
